Kelly Harrison is one of those innovative educators gifted with the exceptional ability to transform vision into reality. Aware that Language Educators needed professional development tailored to their subject, Kelly set about creating events that made these gifted and uniquely talented teachers feel valued as professionals. The Languages Roadshow is testament to Kelly’s critical and creative problem solving, genuine desire to meet the needs of her profession and her outstanding skills as a teacher and communicator. Kelly is a highly inspiring, self-motivated “teacher-on-a-mission” who is well on the way to completely transforming Languages Education in Australia. Best of all, Kel remains very much that "teacher from the classroom next door". I feel privileged to call her my friend and after working with her, I’m certain you will too.
Gabbie Stroud, keynote speaker and author of Teacher and Dear Parents
The Miami SHS Languages Team first attended a Languages Roadshow in 2019. The Roadshow was so positively received by the attendees that in 2020, we sent all of our language teachers. Both years we have found the keynote speaker to be insightful and relatable which has helped to engage with the PD. The session presented on CLIL and the time we were given to work on this was well received by my team. The learnings from Kelly’s CLIL session are being embedded into our planning proving that the Roadshow has had an encouraging influence on our teaching. I believe the Languages Roadshow to be the most valuable language PD that my team and I can attend as it is targeted at improving our pedagogical practices, introducing us to new programs and reinvigorating our love of language teaching. We can’t wait to attend again!
Melissa Wilson, Head of Department - Global Studies, Miami SHS, QLD
Most of our Languages Department staff across French, Japanese and Italian, attended the Languages Roadshow, and all are keen to attend again in future. The Languages Roadshow program cleverly balanced really language-specific topics and workshops, while also welcoming presenters, such as Gabbie Stroud, from broader walks of education, which is important nonetheless for Languages teachers who can struggle to situate themselves within the wider education system, but have long ago earnt their place! All aspects of the day were well-organised, with plenty of materials available both before and after to encourage also the collaborative aspect.

Developing practice for professionals in language education comes with a plethora of delicacies. Languages Roadshow nurtures this delicacy for its participants, and goes beyond by encouraging those in the profession with genuine advocacy and compassion for program content that articulates meaningful development. Thank you, Kelly and team, for your energy.

Languages Roadshow Workshops are like no other! The events cover a wide range of topics that relate to the modern world of teaching language. The events provide a rare opportunity to meet and to work with amazing languages teachers. The experience was motivating, inspirational and I felt refreshed after the workshop, full of exciting ideas. Cannot wait to see what other workshops Languages Roadshow offers to us all!

I was lucky to have the opportunity to attend the Languages Roadshow in Lismore in 2019 with Kelly. This was an incredible day. Kelly is a highly engaging and enthusiastic presenter. She is very inspiring when she explains her experiences of using CLIL in the classroom. Other presenters on the day were also very inspiring and extremely interesting.
Catering for the event was also fantastic. I would recommend attending the Languages Roadshow to all language teachers!

As a college that has a leadership team that values languages, we have been fortunate enough to have 2 staff members attend both the 2019 and 2020 Languages Roadshow events. Congratulations to Kelly for making the events so unique and engaging, as the program provided us with actionable concepts, relevant to language teachers, to both implement and reflect on.
Furthermore, her keynote speakers delivered insightful presentations that both intrigued and entertained us, reminding us of the global world that we live in, outside of the classroom.
Keen for 2021.
Brendan Merrotsy, Head of Languages, Iona College, QLD
My experience of Languages Roadshow started with an inspiring full-day event in Lismore. The relevant and well-resourced content was engaging and turned what I first thought was daunting into the achievable. Languages Roadshow gave me the confidence to implement new techniques immediately in my classes and to continue to develop my practice as a language teacher. The event also provided the added-value of the opportunity to collaborate with cross-sector language teacher networks, which has been a great bonus!
Since attending the Languages Roadshow day event, Kelly has provided me with ongoing support. Her passion and experience are evident and her approach is genuinely supportive and inspiring!

I was very motivated to get CLIL up and running at my school after I heard Kelly speak about the concept in her Languages Roadshow event earlier this year. Since then, she has made herself available to toss around some ideas about implementing CLIL in practical ways. She put together a three-year CLIL plan, which included links to my school’s pedagogical framework, and presented it to members of the school Admin. Thanks to Kelly’s insights, attention to detail and professionalism, Admin has come to understand its value, and I look forward to continuing this CLIL journey with Kelly’s support!

I have had the pleasure of working with Kelly Harrison from Languages Roadshow to develop a Term 3 CLIL unit on the Migration to Australia (Year 6 HASS) in collaboration with our talented Italian teacher Signora Enza. Kelly, Enza and I worked collaboratively to develop this unit from the ground up. Kelly brought a wealth of experience of CLIL, doing much of the planning and resourcing, ensuring alignment with Australian Curriculum, with Enza sharing her talents and knowledge of Italian language learning. Combined with my knowledge of the learners - it was very effective team. This was a great opportunity for me to challenge myself to further build my capacity as a teacher and the students have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. (I think they learnt a great deal from me struggling to use Italian to give instructions!) I would highly recommend working with Kelly to develop a project at your school. We will absolutely be taking on this challenge again next year! Thank you Kelly!
